Again, we will speak in Spanish, you can read the written version and if you need the English version you have the help of our “catrín” Larry, that is, you click on that image and that's it...

If you listen to us week after week you already understand much more, don't you? And if this is the first time you open the 5 minutes, where were you? Finish this episode and then look for us on SpanishUp2U, on Spotify, on RRS.com, Amazon Music, Apple podcast, on the SpanishInCabo blog, we are everywhere, ¿viste?

Yes, but now try to understand the context, not word by word, remember that Spanish has many cognates, that is, similar words in other languages, such as English and French. Once you identify them it is easier.

But today we are not going to talk about a cognate, at least not with English or French. It is a word that is spelled and pronounced the same but has two very different meanings We also use it as a question to reaffirm something or to call attention, ¿viste?

What did I see? I don't see anything new, what's the word?

“Viste”, that's the word.

Ah, sure! Let's see if you've heard these expressions:

Have you already seen it?

You didn't see that!

You saw the movie stars

She dresses like a schoolteacher

“Viste” is the second person singular of the Pretérito Indefinido of the verb to see, “ver”:

Did you see what happened to me yesterday?

No

I overslept and was late for the meeting.

Did you see the movie "The Godfather"?

Yes of course, who didn't ....

Also, we dress related to wearing a suit or clothes.

He dresses very well, he is elegant.

Pepito is the designer who dresses Hollywood stars.

He always wears white and it looks great on him.

You can dress a table with a tablecloth, at a party, for example.

If you want to travel around the State of Mexico you can go to Chiconcuac, "the municipality that dresses the world", it is a cultural tourism destination where hand-spun textiles are produced, as well as typical food and other handicrafts. If you want to visit this traditional region, Eduardo and Alejandro help you with Unique Trips and you will have your personalized trip with a special price. Did you see that we did not forget the advertising moment?

We also have the reflexive verb: to dress or to cover the body with clothes. I dress in fashionable clothes, you dress quickly, he dresses poorly, we dress, they dress.

He dresses with the first thing he finds, he wears anything, he used to be very different, when we met he dressed very well Do you know someone like that?

In social media (Instagram, Facebook) and the media the expression is used a lot:

Have you seen it yet? Or the never seen it

I remember an old advertising....

No, again with an old advertising

It started like this:

Did you see it? Did you see it?

El Mago dress you. It was a men's clothing store...Then came a song that

It made a rhyme between quality - age - exclusivity...

Do you remember it, shall I sing it?

No, please don't sing it.

Ah, did you see how they repress me, did you see?

We don't say listen in this case, we use to see, did you see?

And you? Did you see all the new articles and exercises that we upload every day to SpansihUp2U?
