Exactly, but now seek to understand the context, not word for word, remember that Spanish, has many cognates, that is, similar words in other languages, such as English and French. Once you identify them it is easier.

Today we are going to talk about a word that is not a cognate... but it is very short and has a similar verb. The word is tino.

It is also a name, isn't it? Better said, nickname. There is a popular song that mentions this word, but please don't sing it.

No, I'm not going to sing it, but if you have traveled through Mexico, I'm sure you have heard this song, it's the one we sing when we break the piñata, how is it Eduardo?

Come on, come on, come on, come on, don't lose your way because if you lose it, you lose your way, you already gave him 1, you already gave him 2, you already gave him 3, and your time is up.

It's very funny and the boy hits the piñata with a stick with his eyes covered with a handkerchief.

What does the word “tino” mean?

It is the habit or ease of getting it right. That is why in the piñata song the child must hit the piñata with the stick. It is also sanity, good judgment or prudence.

It is very important to be prudent or have good judgment or good sense.

Have you ever lost your wits, Eduardo?

Not ever.

Neither have I. To lose one's wits is like losing one's mind, to be a little crazy.

The word comes from the verb atinar which means to hit or hit the target, to find what one is looking for gropingly, without seeing the object.

All the lights went out, everything was very dark, I only managed to grab the staircase railing and go down carefully.

You didn't have your cell phone nearby to turn on the cell phone flashlight .....

Another example: The teenager was very angry, the grandmother was very wise and decided not to confront him, finally the boy calmed down.

Synonyms for this verb are adivinar, acertar, hallar, encontrar, descifrar.

“Atinar” (to guess) is to hit the nail on the head.

And you know who hit the nail on the head, you, who are listening to this podcast. Because you found the best place to practice Spanish in a fun and efficient way.

In SpanishUp2u you can learn a lot of words and also a lot of Latin American culture and also grammar, sayings, crafts. Click here and see how wise it is to have this practice site.

There is a lot of material and a lot of exercises, I have to do it all?

No, it's Up2U, you listen to the topics you like, whatever catches your attention.

With only two workshops a month you recover the investment of the site.

And the most important thing is that you will speak Spanish like a Latin American. Don't take our word for it, come in on Friday for the free workshop and see for yourself. SpanishUP2U works
