Thank you very much for joining us for another episode of 5 minutos de español. Let's practice a little Spanish...

We believe in the power of small steps. Every day, we learn a few words or a new verb...

Of course, that's the best way. So, what's today's topic?

In episode 241 of this popular podcast, we're going to talk about how to express agreement in Spanish.

Very good, these are expressions that we can use both in everyday Spanish and in more formal contexts.

Exactly, in Spanish we don't just use “estoy de acuerdo” (I agree). There are many ways to show that you think the same way. And the key is to sound natural.

Let's get to the point: Basic ways to express agreement:

  1. Sí, claro.
    Yes, of course.
  2. Estoy de acuerdo.
    I agree.
  3. Tienes razón.
    You're right.
  4. Yo también lo creo.
    I think so too.
  5. Exactamente.
    Exactly.
  6. Es verdad.
    It's true.
  7. Por supuesto.
    Of course.
  8. Totalmente. / Completamente.
    Totally. / Completely.
  9. Así es.
    That's right.
  10. Sin duda.
    No doubt about it.

Veamos ejemplos / let s see examples:

— El español es un idioma muy bonito. — Spanish is a very beautiful language.
—¡Sí, claro! Estoy totalmente de acuerdo.
—Yes, of course! I totally agree.
— Además, es muy útil para viajar. Plus, it's very useful for traveling.
— Tienes razón. ¡Y también para hacer nuevos amigos! You're right. And for making new friends too!

—Escuchar un podcast es una buena forma para mejorar un idioma, ¿sí? Listening to a podcast is a good way to improve your language skills, right?

—Así es, además, puedes hacer otra cosa mientras escuchas. That's right, and you can do other things while you listen.

—Las mujeres manejamos mejor que los hombres….— Women are better drivers than men...

—Por supuesto, si tú lo dices…Of course, if you say so...

Vamos a otras maneras naturales (más expresivas o informales): Let's look at other natural ways (more expressive or informal):

·         ¡Eso mismo iba a decir!
That's exactly what I was going to say!

·         ¡Justo eso!
just that!

·         ¡Claro que sí!
Of course, yes!

·         Ni lo dudes.
Don't even doubt it.

·         Opino igual. / Pienso lo mismo.
I think the same.

—Eduardo, you consider yourself a travel expert: Speaking the language helps you learn more about the countries you visit.

—Of course! You can move around much more freely and go wherever you want, interacting with the locals.

Let's look at another example related to languages:

Accepting that you will make mistakes when learning a language is very good for improving.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Learning from mistakes is the most important thing for improving, especially when learning a language.

Totalmente, como dice el dicho: Absolutely, as the saying goes:

 “errando, errando se va avanzando”

“By making mistakes, by making mistakes, you move forward”

Here are many ways to express agreement.

If someone says something you also believe, you can respond with a simple “Exactly!” or something more emphatic like “You're absolutely right!”
