¿Nos tomamos una selfy? / How about a selfy?





English and Spanish as languages are very similars, because they have commons ancestors known as Indo-European (indoeuropeos) and then the Roman Empire extend to England, so a lot of English words came from Latin.  Let’s try to see some of these words known as cognates.

Words that end in "-tion" in English often end in -ción in Spanish:
Civilization               civilización,
Education                educación
Eliminación             elimination
Gestación                gestation

Many English words that have a "ph" in them have an f in the Spanish version:
photo,                    foto
philosophy              filosofía
physical                 físico
phenomenon         fenómeno
physiotherapy       fisioterapia

A few words in English that have a "th" in them have a Spanish equivalent with a t:
Thema         tema
theater        teatro
theory         teoría

Adverbs  that end in "-ly" in English sometimes have a Spanish equivalent ending in -mente:
rapidly        rápidamente
only           solamente
frequently   frecuentemente

Besides, (además) all the words in computación or informática come from English:  is correct to say e-mail or mouse, you don´t have to say correo electrónico o ratón; we say spam; Internet o Web (you don´t have to say Red).
