Good morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on where you are or at what time you listen to us.

Thank you for being there listening to our words.               

In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the week, we are going to talk about words.

In English "palabra" is Word

People say: "A las palabras se las lleva el viento".

Words are carried off by the wind / words are blown with the wind.

“Pienso que ese dicho muy común y antiguo es una gran mentira”.

I think that this very common and old saying is a big lie.

Words are powerful, they impact us, many times we retain things that our parents tell us as children, sometimes without thinking and they hurt us. Words such as,

"You're mean. You don't lend your toys."

My mom used to tell me, “pero si eres cabezadura ".

Male was stubborn, header, stubborn.

I was stubborn, now I'm not.

With words we relate to others, we work, we live in society.

With words, we fall in love

It is important to choose words because they have intention.

That is why I agree with the tradition of the Toltecs, recovered in Ruiz's book “Los 4 Acuerdos”: “Sé impecable con tus palabras”

To be impeccable with our words we have several cognates that explain a message like this

Asertivo    assertive

Claro         clear

Concreto   concrete

Correcto    correct

Conciso    concise

Cortés       courteous

In other words, don't talk for the sake of talking.

Remember that we have “2 orejas y 1 boca” (2 ears and 1 mouth).

What about being specific?

Yes, we're running out of 5 minutes and we still have another saying:

“Lo bueno si es breve, dos veces bueno; y aún lo malo, si es poco, no tan malo”

The good, if brief, is twice as good; and even the bad, if a little, not so bad".

Very clear, isn't it? Let's be concrete and concise!

Buenos días buenas tardes o buenas noches según el lugar en donde estés o a la hora en la que nos escuches.

En estos 5 minutos de español a la mitad de la semana, justamente vamos a hablar de las palabras.

En inglés “palabra” se dice  Word

La gente dice: “A las palabras se las lleva el viento”

Pienso que ese dicho muy común y  antiguo es una gran mentira.

Las palabras son ponderosas, nos impactan, muchas veces retenemos cosas que nos dicen de pequeños nuestros padres, a veces sin pensar y nos hacen daño. Palabras  tales como,

“Eres malo. No prestas tus juguetes”

A mí, mi mamá me decía: “pero si eres cabezadura”

Male was cabezadura, header, stuborn.

Era cabezadura, ahora no lo soy.

Con las palabras nos relacionamos con los demás, trabajamos, vivimos en sociedad.

Con  palabras, nos enamoramos

Es importante seleccionar las palabras pues ellas tienen intención.

Por eso estoy muy de acuerdo con la tradición de los toltecas, recuperada en el libro de Ruiz de los 4 Acuerdos: “Sé impecable con tus palabras”

Para ser impecables con nuestras palabras tenemos varios cognados que explican un mensaje así

Asertivo-    assertive

Claro         clear

Concreto   concrete

Correcto    correct

Conciso    concise

Cortés       courteous

En otras palabras, no hablar por hablar

Recordar que tenemos dos orejas y una boca, (2 ears and 1 mouth)

¿Y lo de ser concretos?

Sí, se nos van los 5 minutos y todavía tenemos otro dicho:

“Lo bueno si es breve, dos veces bueno; y aún lo malo, si es poco, no tan malo”

¿Muy claro verdad? ¡A ser concretos y concisos!
