What happened? Who attended? / 5 minutes of Spanish + Podcast - English version

What Hppen? /¿Qué ocurrió?

Hello, how are you?           Listen the audio

Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, depending on where you are or what time you are listening to us.

Thank you very much for being here and participating in this podcast about Spanish, a language we love and that brings us together today.

You are listening to 5 Minutes of Spanish, and this is episode number 238.

Welcome! Thank you for being with us week after week, for your comments, for listening, and for being part of the Spanish in Cabo family.

Today we have a topic that... well, happens all the time: we're going to talk about the verbs ocurrir and concurrir! Are you ready?

And what happened?

This verb, ocurrir, is used to talk about something that happens, that occurs.

ocurrir = to happen, to occur

 Por ejemplo: / For example

Ayer ocurrió algo muy lindo: mis amigos me organizaron una fiesta sorpresa.
Something really nice happened yesterday: my friends threw me a surprise party.

¿Qué ocurrió con la clase del viernes?
What happened with the Friday class?

No sé qué ocurrió, pero no llegó el correo.
I don’t know what happened, but the mail didn’t arrive.

I came up with a great idea.

I always, have good ideas!

And what about concurrir?

Ah! That verb is less common in everyday life, but it sounds elegant and is used a lot in written language.

Concurrir means to attend, to be present in a place

concurrir = to attend, to be present, to go (to an event or place)

Muchas personas concurrieron al concierto.
Many people attended the concert.

¿Concurriste a la reunión del martes?
Did you attend the meeting on Tuesday?

Mi hijo concurre a una escuela bilingüe.
My son attends a bilingual school.

And if many people gather in one place, we can say that there was a large crowd.

Let's go to a🎯 Quick summary: Resumen

Ocurrir: something that occurs or takes place.

A problem occurred. Ocurrió un problema

What happened yesterday? ¿Qué ocurrió ayer?

Concurrir: asistir, estar presente en un lugar.
Concurrimos a una clase especial.

We attended a special class.

ocurrir = to happen, to occur

concurrir = to attend, to go (formal), to show up

 concurrencia = attendance, turnout

And before this episode comes to an end, we just want to say:

Thank you for tuning in and listening.
