En este verano, la fisonomía de nuestro hermoso destino está cambiando. Vamos a reflexionar sobre
3 temas:
1
Primeramente, continuamos con la amenaza de instalación de minería extraída con métodos antiguos, usando cianuro, que no está permitido en la mayoría de los países, (Minería toxica). Esta mina está ubicada en las cercanías de la Sierra de la laguna. Como todos los visitantes frecuentes de la Baja saben, es una zona de enorme importancia para la humanidad, por su riqueza en especies y diversidad ecológica.
La población, siempre ha estado en contra de estos
proyectos, recuerden la famosa SOS en la que miles de personas nos juntamos en
El Tule y formamos las letras SOS. En estos días se han realizado varios
encuentros en San Lucas y en San José y se están levantando firmas para
interrumpir el proyecto minero.

Por otro lado, el llamado “acuario del mundo” está mermando su riqueza en gran medida por la pesca comercial, que está prohibida, pero que, igual se realiza.

Se está haciendo una mejora del tramo carretero entre Westin y Sheraton por lo que está complicado manejar desde Los Cabos a San José, pero eso no es lo peor. Se está construyendo una carretera alternativa, desde el aeropuerto hasta San Lucas. La población se preocupa mucho pues, se dice que esta sería la ruta obligatoria para los locales. La antigua y mejorada carretera con acceso a las Playas: El Chileno, Santa María y las Viudas, formaría parte de la llamada "Zona Dorada"¿Tendremos acceso a las playas? Espero vivamente que sí.La Asociación de Hoteles, respecto a este proyecto, dice en su primer punto que se debe asegurar el acceso a las playas y que la carretera debe continuar siendo pública. Ojalá que esto se cumpla, pues todos los que vivimos aquí, ya sea permanente o parcialmente y todos los visitantes tenemos el derecho de disfrutar de estas maravilla, estemos donde estemos alojados.

Es que, como resultado de nuevas obras en la Playa del
Chileno apareció un "chapoteadero" de agua contaminada con gasolina, ¡a 4 metros
del mar! Se ve y se siente el olor ni bien te acercas.
Se analizaron esas aguas y estaban muy contaminadas, sin duda, es un descuido imperdonable de la empresa constructora del condominio. Esta playa es mítica, es uno de los lugares más hermosos del mundo y es (¿era?) una playa catalogada con Bandera azul (Blue Flag) por organismos internacionales.

Actualmente, esa parte de la playa (a la derecha subiendo
una colina) está cerrada, esa pequeña playita a la que solíamos concurrir con
algunos estudiantes de Spanish in Cabo. Recuerdo haber estado hace dos veranos en agosto, más dos horas flotando en el agua, platicando
en español e inglés, ahorita está clausurada…y
contaminada….En estos días no tiene la bandera azul....¿perdió esta categoría? No se sabe nada. Es muy raro, es un factor de preocupación, al menos para los amantes del mar y del aire libre.

En síntesis, este verano perdimos por reparaciones… una
playa (Las Viudas), tenemos El Chileno más pequeño, con una construcción muy
cerca de la zona de playa y contaminada, la playa Santa María sigue muy bien
(el estacionamiento está más pequeño, hay un club de Playa de un hotel pero no
afecta a la misma y las personas podemos disfrutarla), Palmilla espectacular,
como siempre y la carretera en reparación, aunque estaba por fin perfecta…Se
están construyendo muchos hoteles y condominios a lo largo de la transpeninsular, en
varios tramos los muros armonizan con el paisaje desértico, gracias a un buen
diseño. En el otro extremo de San José, la playa de El Ganzo está también
cerrada por reparaciones de la marina.
Dos dichos populares que se nos recuerda esta situación
Todos estos cambios, cuando el calor de 36 grados
centígrados y las vacaciones dispersan a las personas, nos hacen pensar en dos
dichos populares que, como siempre, tienen mucho de sabiduría:
“A río revuelto cosecha de pescadores”
Cuando no hay informaciones claras y los hechos suceden muy
rápido…alguien gana algo, en este caso, evidentement, no son los
pescadores pobres.
Otra expresión, que viene del tango es:
La piqueta fatal del progreso,
en pos del progreso una fisonomía a la que nos acostumbramos, muere, para siempre. Debemos estar alertas porque, como dice el slogan propuesto hace unos días, por la organización de Hoteles, las cámaras de comercio y las fuerzas vivas de Los Cabos:“Todo está aquí” y ¡tenemos que cuidarlo!
¡Caminemos juntos por la libertad de los mares y la conservación de las playas!

This
summer, the face of our beautiful destination is changing. We will reflect on three topics:

First, we continue with the threat of installing an open mine which uses cyanide for mineral extraction, which is not allowed in most countries (toxic mining). This mine is located in the vicinity of the Sierra de la Laguna. Like all frequent visitors of Baja know, it is an area of great importance for humanity, for its richness in species and ecological diversity.
The
population, has always been against these kind of projects, remember the famous
SOS in which thousands of people get together in El Tule and we form the
letters SOS with our bodies. In these days we have organize several meetings in
San Lucas and San José and we are rising signatures to stop the mining project.

people from here, the people who were born in Los Cabos area. The choya is the name
of a cactus.

On the other hand, the place called "the world's aquarium" is losing its fish by commercial fishing which is prohibited, but the big companies do it, nevertheless.

They are doing a reform in the main highway between Westin and Sheraton,for that it is very difficult for driving, but this is not the worst. They are building an altternative road from the Aerport to Cabo San Lucas. The population is very concern because they say that this would be an main road for the locals. The old and renew road with the beach access, Chileno Bay, Santa María and las Viudas, would be part of the new area call: Goden Zone. Will we have access to the beaches? I sincerely hope so.
Hotel Association says, about this project, in its first point, that must ensure access to the beaches and the road remain public. We hope that! All the people who live here, either permanently or partially and all visitors have the right to enjoy these wonderful beaches, wherever we are staying.

Nowadays,
this part of the beach (on the wright, up to the hill) is closed. This small little
beach to which we used to go with some Spanish in Cabo students. I perfectly remember being flouting for hours on the water, two summers ago, chatting
in Spanish and English…now it is closed and polluted….Chileno Bay in this days has not the Blue Flag, at least I didn´t see it. It lost the category Blue Flag? Nobody knows . It is rare, it is a topic of concern, at least for the sea lovers.

To end
In short,
this summer, we lost a beach (Las Viudas for repairing); we have the Chileno
Bay smaller than used to be, and with a construction area near the beach and also,
polluted; the Santa Maria Bay continues well (parking is smaller, there are a
beach club hotel but does not affect the beach and people can enjoy it),
Palmilla spectacular, as usual; the road under repair, although it was finally perfect
...

They are
building hotels and condos along the “transpeninsular”, in some areas walls
blend with the desert landscape, thanks to good design. At the other end of San
Jose, the beach of El Ganzo it is also closed for repairs of Marina.

which, as always, have a lot of wisdom:

because of progress a physiognomy that we get used to, die forever. We must be alert because as says the slogan, proposed a few days ago, for the organization of hotels, Chambers of Commerce and the forces of Los Cabos:"Everything is here"
and we have to take care of it!
