Hello, how are you? Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, depending on where you are or the time you're listening.

👋 Welcome back to this space for learning and practicing Spanish. This is episode 246.

Today we're going to talk about a very common and useful verb: the verb "seguir" (to follow/continue).

The verb "seguir" means "to follow" or "to continue."

We use it very frequently in Spanish, in different contexts.

Listen to the podcast

For example:

  • Sigo caminando → I keep walking.
  • ¿Me sigues en lo que digo? Do you follow what I’m saying?
  • Ella sigue estudiando español → She continues studying Spanish.

Como ves, “seguir” puede significar to follow físicamente o to continue en una acción. El sustantivo o nombre es el seguimiento ¿verdad?

Sí, el seguimiento, que en inglés decimos follow-up.

As you can see, "seguir" can mean to follow someone physically or to continue an action. The noun, or the word that represents the action, is "follow-up," right?

Yes, "follow-up," which in English is also called "follow-up."

  • Un doctor hace el seguimiento de un paciente → A doctor does the follow-up of a patient.
  • Un maestro hace el seguimiento de un estudiante → A teacher follows up on a student’s progress.
  • Una empresa hace el seguimiento de un pedido → A company tracks or follows up on an order.
  •

“Seguimiento” tiene siempre esta idea de control, revisión, cuidado, de algo que se continúa observando.

. ¿Y qué tal si repites estas expresiones con “seguir”?

"Monitoring" always has this idea of control, review, care, of something that continues to be observed.

. What if you repeat these expressions with "follow"?

  • Seguido: significa often.
    • Voy seguido al cineI often go to the movies.

Repiete Voy seguido al cine

  • Seguir adelante: significa to move on, to keep going.
    • Después del error, decidió seguir adelanteAfter the mistake, he decided to move on.
    • Repite: Después del error, decidió seguir adelante
  • Seguir en contacto: to keep in touch.
    • Vamos a seguir en contacto por WhatsAppWe’ll keep in touch on WhatsApp.

Y ahora la pregunta para ti:/Now, questions for you:
¿Qué cosas sigues en tu vida? ¿Sigues un sueño, una rutina, una meta?
Do you follow a routine, do you follow your dreams, do you follow your goals?
¿Sigues un plan de estudios de español?

Y ya que hablamos de “seguir”, recordemos el sustantivo seguimiento.
El seguimiento no es solo médico o académico, también puede ser personal: el seguimiento de tus metas, de tus proyectos, de tus sueños.

And since we're talking about "follow-up," let's remember the noun follow-up.

Follow-up isn't just medical or academic; it can also be personal: following up on your goals, your projects, your dreams.

For example:

  • Estoy haciendo el seguimiento de mis avances en el gimnasio → I’m tracking my progress at the gym.
  • Ella hace el seguimiento de sus gastos → She keeps track of her expenses.
