In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the
week we are going to talk about two similar words and very related to theater,
they are: drama and plot.
Ta-ratatan... How dramatic!
Me dramatic? No, never. A piece of advice, if you are
a man, never, but never, tell a woman that she is dramatic....
Let's concentrate on the subject. Drama is cognate
from English. Bravo!
The only difference would be the pronunciation of the
letter d, in Spanish it is soft, while in English it is louder, with the tongue
on the roof of the mouth. Drama - drama
Drama is a play or movie that has tense actions and
situations and conflicting passions.
El nombre de la película es engañoso, pensaba que era
un drama.
The title of the film is misleading. I thought it was a drama
Es una película muy triste, un drama
It is a very sad movie, a drama
In colloquial form we can say: No tienes que hacer de
esto un drama, las cosas pasan y listo.
You don't have to make a drama out of it, things just happen.
We make a drama when we exaggerate a situation. Here
we have another beautiful cognate:
Exagerar- to exaggerate
La exageración- the exaggeration
A person who constantly exaggerates is exaggerated. Pepa es
exagerada / Pepa is exaggerated. Or Pepe is exaggerated
What about the “trama”? This word is not a cognate, “trama”
in English is said: plot.
Also “trama” is a set of “hilos” that crossed together
form a fabric.

And how do you say fabric in English?
Fabric

in a dramatic work or novel is the plot.
I mean the poor girl who comes to work in the city and

....

Well, imagine that you are about to get angry about
something with someone, then: you breathe and think:

¿Yo dramática? No, jamás. Un consejo, si eres hombre, nunca, pero nunca, le
digas a una mujer que es dramática…
Vamos a concentrarnos en el tema. Drama es cognado del inglés ¡Bravo!
La única diferencia
sería la pronunciación de la letra d, en español es suave, mientras que en el
inglés es más fuerte, con la lengua en el paladar. Drama - drama
El drama es una obra de teatro o de cine que tiene acciones y situaciones
tensas y pasiones conflictivas

En forma coloquial podemos decir: No tienes que
hacer de esto un drama, las cosas pasan y listo.

Hacemos un drama cuando exageramos una situación. Aquí tenemos otro hermoso
cognado:
La exageración- the exaggeration
Una persona que exagera constantemente es exagerada. Pepa es exagerada / Pepa is exaggerated. O Pepe es
exagerado
¿Y la trama? Esta palabra, no es cognado,
trama en inglés se dice: plot
También trama es un conjunto de hilos que cruzados forman una tela.
¿Cómo se dice hilos en inglés, nunca me acuerdo?
Se dice: threads
¿Y cómo se dice tela en inglés?
Fabric
Entonces, la composición entre las
partes y en especial en una obra dramática o novela es la trama.
O sea la chica pobre que viene a trabajar a la ciudad y casualmente conoce
al rey (the King) que la invita a salir (going out) y se enamora rapidamente
(falls in love) de ella y….luego se enferma y después la tía ... eso es la
trama de un drama….
¡Qué romántico!
¡Quiero llorar!
En este caso es una trama o argumento
muy romántico y algo cursi..
Pero vamos a concentrarnos en el drama, tengo un recurso para cuando no
puedes controlar tus emociones, cuando te enojas, por ejemplo. A mí nunca me
pasa, pero igual…
Ja –ja nunca te pasa, nunca te enojas… (you
never get angry)
¿Qué dices? ¡No hagas dramas!
Bueno, imagínate que te estás por enojar por algo con alguien, entonces:
respiras y piensas:
¿Cuál es el drama? ¿Hay drama aquí? ¿Cuál es la exageración?
Entonces, agradeces a ese alguien, (dices gracias) respiras y listo, ya no
te enojas.
Una buena técnica.… ¿Qué te parece?
Regresemos mejor al cine, a la televisón
y a las películas (movies)
