Do you seek it and find it? / ¿Lo buscas y lo encuentras? - 5 minutos de español + Podcast (English version)

Hello! How are you?

Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, depending on where you are or what time you're listening.

Welcome to podcast 260. Thank you for being here. So... what are we going to talk about today? I hope we're not going to talk about love...

In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the week, we're going to talk about 3 very interesting verbs: buscar, encontrar, and perder.

The translation of these verbs is:

buscar – to look for
encontrar – to find
perder – to lose

Today we are going to comment on some uses of buscar and encontrar, and next Wednesday we will see perder.

Thank you for being here week after week. And after listening to us, look for another episode, find it on Spanish in Cabo, YouTube (your favorite platform), and share it.
Let's look at more examples of searching.

When you travel to a new city, you look for your hotel on the map.

I am looking for a pharmacy near here; can you help me?

Sometimes we look for our keys and they're right in front of us. Who else does that?

También usamos buscar cuando queremos trabajo. We also use this when we are looking for a job

I am looking for a job in a luxury hotel.

O cuando queremos aprender algo nuevo. Or..when we search something new.

Busco un curso de español en línea. / I am looking for an online Spanish course.

And I found it on SpanishUp2U, of course. Here we have a use of “encontrar,” our second verb.

When you finally succeed in your search, you find what you want. For example: Did you find the love of your life? Oh my goodness...

Encontré mis lentes debajo de la cama. / I found my glasses under the bed.

¿Encontraste el restaurante en la avenida principal? / Did you find the restaurant on the main avenue?

Yes, I found it on the corner, near the roundabout.

Yesterday we found a very good deal at the supermarket.

Qué interesante: primero buscas y después encuentras. How interesting: first you search, then you find.

Por eso el dicho: “El que busca, encuentra” /  Seek and you shall find”

But be careful, because if you don't organize your things well... you could lose them. And that will be our topic for next Wednesday.

There are many more uses for searching and finding, but today's 5 minutes are almost up.

Because in life we often look for opportunities, find experiences... and sometimes we also lose things, but we learn.

Thank you very much for listening to the podcast.
