Today we are going to talk about verbs again. In Spanish, there are verbs that sound nice and also help you communicate important things. Such is the case of: seguir, conseguir and perseguir.

They all have a touch of movement or transformation: one follows, another one gets what you want, and sometimes, you have to pursue what you want.

Y los puedes utilizar día a día! 

And the best thing is that you can use them every day!

And they all come from the verb seguir What does seguir mean?

El verbo seguir significa: /The verb seguir means:

Sigo a Spanish in Cabo en YouTube.
I follow Spanish in Cabo on YouTube.

To continue doing something (seguir + gerundio):

Sigo aprendiendo español.
I keep learning Spanish.

To go after:
 El coche seguía al autobús.
The car was following the bus.

También usamos seguir para hablar del orden de algo:
La siguiente canción es mi favorita.
The next song is my favorite.

¿Qué significa conseguir? What does it mean conseguir?

Conseguir es como obtener o lograr algo, especialmente si cuesta trabajo.

Conseguir is like to get or to achieve something, especially if it is difficult

Conseguir- to get

Obtener- to obtain

Lograr- to achieve

 Conseguí boletos para el concierto.
I got tickets for the concert.

¿Pudiste conseguir una cita con el médico?
Were you able to get a doctor’s appointment?

Si estudias mucho, puedes conseguir una beca.
If you study a lot, you can get a scholarship.

¿Qué significa perseguir?

En inglés: to chase, to pursue, to persecute

Ir detrás de alguien o algo para alcanzarlo. (To go after someone or something in order to catch it.)

 Es un verbo de movimiento e intención. t is a verb of movement and intention.

La policía persigue al ladrón por las calles del centro.
The police are chasing the thief through downtown streets.

Buscar con energía un objetivo o meta.
To pursue a goal or dream with determination.

Desde niño, persigue el sueño de ser astronauta.
Since he was a child, he has pursued the dream of becoming an astronaut.

No podemos dejar de perseguir la justicia.
We cannot stop pursuing justice.

Molestar o acosar a alguien repetidamente.
(To harass or persecute someone repeatedly.)
👉 Puede tener un sentido negativo o violento.

Ella se siente perseguida por sus compañeros de trabajo.
She feels persecuted by her coworkers.

O puede ser un niño al que le hacen bullying en su clase, lo persiguen o lo molestan. Un gran problema, por esto muchos chicos no consiguen pasar de año o seguir en una escuela…es triste. Or it could be a child who is bullied in class, chased or picked on. A big problem, this is why so many kids don't make it through the year or stay in school...it's sad.

Vamos con un poco de gramática útil con estos tres verbos Let's go with a bit of useful grammar with these three verbs

En presente:

Yo sigo buscando trabajo. / I keep looking for a job.
Consigo agua en esa tienda. / I get water at that store

El perro persigue al gato. / The dog chases the cat

Los verbos seguir, conseguir y perseguir son irregulares en la primera persona del presente (yo persigo, sigo) y también, cambia la e → i en algunas formas.

¿En pasado?

Seguí caminando aunque llovía./ I kept walking even though it was raining. Conseguimos entradas para el cine./ We got movie tickets.

• Perseguir un objetivo/sueño/meta = To pursue a goal/dream
• Ser perseguido por alguien = To be persecuted by someone

Siguiente – next
– La siguiente clase es mañana. / Next class is tomorrow.

Seguimiento – follow-up

– Tengo 3,000 seguidores en Instagram. / I have 3,000 followers on Instagram.

Proseguir – to continue
– Vamos a proseguir con el podcast. / Let's continue with the podcast.

El que sigue, la consigue… y si persigues tus sueños ya eres feliz en este camino.

 He who follows, gets it... and if you pursue your dreams you are already happy on this path.
