The Guadalupe - Reyes marathon & innocents Day / 5 minutes of Spanish - English Version + Podcast
In this podcast we talk about the Guadalupe-Reyes Marathon and April Fool's Day. What activities are carried out these days?
Good
morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on where you are or what time
you are listening to us.
Thank
you very much for being here participating in this podcast about Spanish, a
language that we love and that summons us today.
We thank you for being with us here week after
week, and we hope you are having a wonderful holiday season with your loved
ones.
We are
in the middle of the Fiestas Navideñas, what is this period called in Mexico?
What
is the result, then, of this Guadalupe-Reyes marathon?
Well,
you can imagine, the result is a few extra kilos, for some of us, those of us
who like to eat, it's not your case Eduardo, you are always in shape....
Let's
go to the vocabulary:
kilos de más o engordar
-extra kilos or gain weight
adelgazar
- to lose weight
But I
imagine that today at the end of December we are not going to talk about
weight, because it seems an innocent joke ... we are going to refer to one of
these days, right?
In
this podcast 177 we are going to talk about a celebration that I love, because
it reminds me of my dad and it is the Day of the Innocents, which is celebrated
on December 28th.
Right
on December 28 in the middle of the Guadalupe-Reyes marathon, what do you do on
this holiday?
On
this day we play pranks called: Inocentadas or April Fool's pranks. So on
Thursday 28th you can make pranks and say "innocent, innocent! or
"innocence is good for you! Or
sweet little dove you let yourself be fooled.
In
other parts of the world it is not celebrated on December 28, but on April 1
and is known by different names: in Italy as Pesce d'aprile, in Canada as
Poisson d'avril, in Portugal and Brazil they call it Dia de mentira and in the
United States, United Kingdom and Australia it is fool's day.
They
are jokes that depend on the wit of the person, and sometimes they are sick
jokes,
Bromas- jokes
Bromas pesadas- sick jokes
Día de los Inocentes- Inocent`s
day
Why is
it called “Día de los inocentes”?
The origin
of this day is related to a cruel act described in the Bible, when King Herod I
"The Great", ordered the slaughter of all children born in Bethlehem,
Judea, under two years old, because he found out that three wise men had
visited Jesus.
In other
words, this date would be after January 6…
Yes,
we know that the Bible is not a historical book, as such, it is not interested
in chronology. It is called Holy Innocents Day because children under 2 years
old cannot have sins, so they are innocent.
And
why the jokes?
Throughout
history, the celebration was changing and the altar boys began to make jokes on
this day. The custom then passed to the families.
Ah, it
was the altar boys!
If you
are a man; were you an altar boy?
monaguillos altar boys
pecado - sin
niños menores de 2 años - children under 2
years
And
Male you said he reminded you of your dad? Why?
Because
he made great jokes on Innocent's Day ..... and I always fell for those jokes.
Caer en la broma-
to fall for the joke
So, on
Thursday prepare your joke in Spanish and say: dulce palomita que te dejaste
engañar
paloma - pigeon
What's
no joke is that we're turning 15.
Exactly,
15 years this month, thank you all so much for listening and participating!
Thank
you for letting us do what we love the most.
Have a
great start of the year!
And we
know that Spanish is one of your goals, let's have an excellent 2024 and
success in the study of Spanish, plan and draw your goals, drawing is fantastic
to focus the brain.
dibujar- to draw
Happy
New Year. Let's toast to you

you soon
