Good
morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on where you are or what time
you are listening to us.
Thank
you very much for being here participating in this podcast about Spanish, a
language that we love and that summons us today.
We
are Malena and Eduardo, teachers of Spanish for foreigners, who every week we
talk through this podcast about some topics of the language of García Márquez
and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. If you want to learn Spanish click here and we
will contact you.
What
is our topic today?
Since
September 30 was "International Podcast Day", we want to congratulate
the 5 minutes of Spanish and those of us who are part of it, that is, you, the
listeners and us: Congratulations, Bravo! This is the 164th edition.
We have been together, week after week for 3 years and a half. Up! Toast! Chin
chin!

A
very good way to improve your Spanish quickly is to listen to common
expressions, the ones you use every day and that's what we do in this podcast.
That's
why it's good to have an international day for this new sound document: the
podcast.
But....I
have a little doubt...September 30 is also the "International Day of the
Right to Blasphemy".
Oops,
but we don't say "bad words" we are teachers! We can do a podcast
with some ....do you think it's a good idea?
Maybe
we'll become more popular!
Malas palabras – profanity
/ bad words
blasfemia - blasphemy
Let's
get back to the subject: Where does the word podcast come from?
It
is the union of Ipod, Apple's portable player, and broadcasting, “difusión” in
English.
A
word created by the journalist of The Guardian newspaper, Ben Hammersley, in
2004. In those years, we all downloaded or downloaded music and then listened
to it, with what a thrill!
Descargar o bajar música- Download
music
All
of us who were born in the last century, that is, before the year 2000,
remember the impact of the iPod...
Siglo pasado- last
century
Is
there a translation for podcast?
No,
Pódcast is an anglicism with no equivalent in Spanish. It is written with a graphic
accent “tilde” on the o. In the plural, no "s" is added, just like
the word test. In other words, the 164
5-minute Spanish “podcast”.
It
can also be written in English, right?
Sí, en ese caso en cursiva o entre comillas
/ In italics or between quotation marks
What
difference does a podcast have with a radio program?
Almost
none, if the radio is live, there are differences, you have to have everything
under control, in the podcast you can delete if you say a word wrong or the dog
barks ....
Or
a noisy truck pass by... it sounds familiar.
Actually,
all radios have their podcasts and you have the possibility to listen to them
at any time. It is said that the podcast gave a new life to radio, a more
direct contact with its listeners.
As
you know there are podcasts on many topics, not just improving your Spanish,
economics, politics, sports, crime investigation and more. Most of the podcasts
are two people talking, in many cases, there are guests.
Music
is very important.... we don't have it. Neither does a video version that some
podcasts do..... On the fourth birthday we will improve it, yes?
Why
do you think the podcast is so popular nowadays?
I
think that contact through voice achieves a very intimate communication with
the listener, it is also direct, informal, it makes people imagine more. U.S.
President Roosevelt already knew this in his "fireside chats", where
he addressed his fellow citizens on the radio as if they were together, in
slippers, with a simple language, speaking directly to the heart.
Pantuflas- slippers
Here
in Los Cabos we are not in slippers, hey, it's too hot!
