How are you? Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, depending on where you are or what time you listen to us.
We are Malena and Eduardo from Spanish in Cabo, your Spanish home in Los Cabos, we thank you for practicing your new language with us.
In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the
week we are going to continue talking about movies, if you didn't listen to the

We love to talk about topics that are talked about
every day like movies, especially now, when we can't go out so much.
And we have Netflix! Do you watch a lot of movies on Netflix?
Malena, when you were a kid did you go to the movies a
lot?
Yes, of course I did.
I would go to something called Matiné, 3 movies in an afternoon, the
cinema full of kids, eating popcorn and chocolates. The first movie was about
cowboys, the second about Cantinflas, from the golden age of Mexican cinema,
and the last one something more modern for that time (The Godfather, Contact in
France,...).
Did you like Wild West movies?
A little bit, at least I practiced English because
they were spoken in English with Spanish subtitles, they were not dubbed into
Spanish.
I prefer movies in their own language, I don't like
dubbing. And here a little bit of vocabulary:

It was the time of short films. However, I
saw "Lo que el viento se llevó" twice.

I didn't fall asleep either of the two times, I loved
that movie, very sad with the Civil War, now if I watch it I fall asleep....
What is this classic American film called in English?
Gone with the wind, is the original title, it is a
historical and romantic genre film.
What year was it filmed?
In 1939 the producer is David O Selznick and the
director is Victor Fleming.
Who wrote the screenplay?
Sidney Howard and Ben Hecht
And who is in the cast?
Viven Leigh. Clark Gable and Leslie Howard
What is the plot of Gone with the Wind?
It tells the story of Scarlett O'Hara the protagonist,
played by Vivien Leigh, the story takes place in the American South during the

Scarlett O'Hara's character is very special, she is a
very determined girl.

Yes, in the 12th edition of the Oscar Awards it

Which ones?
Troya from 2004, many well-known people were stuntmen
in that movie and the filming of Troya was done on the beaches of Los Cabos,
not in Greece.

Malena, ¿cuándo eras niña ibas mucho al cine?
Sí, claro
que sí. Iba a algo que se llamaba
Matiné, 3 películas en una tarde, el cine lleno de niños, comiendo palomitas y
chocolates. La primera película era de cowboys, segunda de Cantinflas, de la
época de oro del Cine mexicano y la última algo más moderno….para la época. (El
Padrino (the godfather, Contacto en Francia,…)
¿Te gustaban las películas del Lejano Oeste?
Carretas, vaqueros y caballos
Un poco,
al menos practicaba inglés pues eran habladas en inglés con subtítulos en
español, no eran dobladas al español.
Prefiero las películas en su propio idioma, no
me gustan los doblajes. Y aquí un poco de vocabulario:
