With these adjectives you can't use the VERY / MUY - 5 minutes of Spanish + Podcast
Hello,
how are you?
Good
morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on where you are or what time
you are listening to us.
Thank
you very much for being here participating in this podcast about Spanish, a
language that we love and that today summons us. I am Eduardo Satorno, Spanish
teacher at SpanishUp2U and manager of Unique Trips, your travel agency.
I am
Malena Algorta, Spanish teacher at Spanish in Cabo and at SpanishUp2U. If you
want to know more about your Spanish site click here and you will see all the podcasts,
videos and lessons we have for you, so you can write: "ready" or
"done" in your goal to speak Spanish in 2022.
And
that you draw this checkmark symbol to indicate that something is correct or
done.
What a
pleasure to mark this symbol! I have already done it. Many Spanishup2U
participants can say: that's it, I speak Spanish.
During
this year they read more than 10 books by renowned authors such as Miguel de
Unamuno, Gabriel García Márquez and Sábato, among others, in the book club
coordinated by Arabela.
And
short stories by Horacio Quiroga, Isabel Allende, Cortázar and Octavio Paz in
the Reading and Pronunciation Club moderated by Karina. Congratulations to them
and goal accomplished! We are in 5
minutes of Spanish and this is episode number 128.
Welcome!
Thanks for listening week after week. This is a podcast to practice Spanish, if
you need the English version, click on artist Bruno Pegoretti's fantastic
chicken. And if you come to San Jose del Cabo, after your Spanish class you can
visit Bruno and Jill in the Art District and chat in Spanish with them.
If you
are thinking, I didn't read that many books, not even in my native
language...from the 5 minutes of Spanish we tell you, you are on time, you have
27 days to fulfill that plan to speak Spanish, after listening to this podcast,
write us an e-mail
and we will create a program for you, ok?
And
today, are we planning the year or what?
No,
the plan for the year is next week, today we are going to talk about food.
Oops,
I'm interested in this, Christmas food?
No,
Eduardo, this is not a cooking podcast, it's a Spanish podcast, so we're going
to talk about the adjectives we use to say something is tasty...or not.
In our
cooking and Spanish experience, I always get told: está muy rico or muy bueno.
Muy rico o delicioso |
Especially
when we have the banana margarita...Seriously speaking, adjectives that already
have an intensified meaning, cannot be combined with "muy".
For
example, delicious. If you say that a dish is delicious or tasty, you shouldn't
use “muy”.
Exactly,
it is a quite common mistake, although it is not serious, it sounds wrong. In
these cases you can say:
Este plato está verdaderamente delicioso. This dish is really delicious.
Esta salsa está realmente sabrosa This sauce is really tasty.
This
also happens with the following adjectives:
Fantástico – Este libro es realmente fantástico This
book is really fantastic.
Maravilloso- Este crucero es verdaderamente maravilloso. This cruise is truly wonderful.
Precioso/preciosa Esta playa es realmente preciosa. This beach is really beautiful.
Increíble
Esta clase es verdaderamente increíble. This class is truly amazing.
Horrible
Esta película es realmente horrible.
This movie is really horrible.
Genial La clase estuvo realmente genial. The class was really great
Pretty
easy, isn't it? With these adjectives you can't use the VERY. It's very tasty
or delicious.
