And what is today's topic?
In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the
week we are going to talk about 2 adjectives that in principle translate the
same, but have some different uses. And they are suave and blando or blanda.
A quick translation of these two adjectives would be
soft, but it has its problems.
Shall we see an example?
Let's imagine a dialogue in a middle-aged couple
Tienes la piel muy suave / you have very soft skin
The woman, very happy, replies I put on coconut oil or
moisturizer.
But what if the man says: my dear you have “piel
blanda”... or worse, blandita.
My dear you have loose or lax skin....
La respuesta sería: con todo lo que hago, quieres que
todavía, vaya al gimnasio. / The answer
would be, with everything I do, you want me to still go to the gym.
So, we need to differentiate these two adjectives and
let's get up and get started!
What does soft mean?
It is something soft or smooth to the touch
piel suave - smooth skin
madera suave - soft wood
papel suave - soft paper

Another meaning?
That it is pleasant and sweet to the senses:
viento suave - soft wind
música suave - soft music
sabor suave - soft flavor
Me gusta esta cerveza. Es muy

La salsa tiene un sabor suave que complementa la carne. / The sauce has a mild flavor that
complements the meat.
Anything else?
Yes, suave also means that it is slow, calm or
measured:
un carácter suave - a smooth character,
un movimiento suave - a smooth movement,
una voz suave - a soft voice
And we can also talk about a “beso suave” – a soft
Kiss.
If you listen to songs you are going to hear many
times the word soft, for example softly kiss me .....

adverb, ly in English.

Tiene muy buenos modales y un carácter muy suave,
todos lo aprecian. / He has very good

It's a
colloquial way of saying they're nice, fun.
¡Un hermoso atardecer, la

And
what does “blando o blanda” mean?
That it puts up little
resistance to pressure, yields easily, can break easily or take different
shapes:
el pan tierno - the soft bread,
la cera caliente - the warm wax,
la masa fresca - the fresh dough

another meaning?

¿Y cuál es el tema de hoy?
En
estos 5 minutos de español a la mitad de la semana vamos a conversar sobre 2 adjetivos
que en principio se traducen igual, pero que tienen algunos usos diferentes. Y
son suave y blando o blanda.
Una traducción rápida de estos dos
adjetivos sería soft, pero tiene sus problemas
¿Vemos un ejemplo?
Vamos
a imaginar un diálogo en una pareja de mediana edad
Tienes
la piel muy suave / you have very soft skin
La
mujer, muy contenta, le contesta me pongo aceite de coco o crema humectante.
Pero,
qué pasa si el hombre dice: querida tienes la piel blanda….o peor, blandita.
My
dear you have loose or lax skin…
Por
eso necesitamos diferenciar estos dos adjetivos y ¡vamos arriba, comenzamos!
¿Qué significa suave?
Es algo blando o liso al tacto
piel
suave - smooth skin
madera
suave - soft wood
papel suave - soft paper

¿Otro significado?
Que es agradable y dulce a los sentidos:
viento

Si, suave significa también que es lento,
tranquilo o medido:
un carácter
suave - a smooth
character,
un movimiento suave - a smooth movement,

Y también podemos hablar de un beso
suave- soft Kiss
Si escuchas canciones vas a escuchar
muchas veces la palabra suave, por ejemplo suavemente bésame…..
Sí,
es una canción de salsa muy famosa, mente es el adverbio, ly del inglés
Bueno, pero vamos a un ejemplo
con el carácter:
Están
muy suaves estos 5 minutos, ¿verdad?
Es una
forma coloquial de decir que están agradable, divertidos.

¿Y qué
significa blando o blanda?
Que pone poca
resistencia a la presión, cede con facilidad, puede partirse fácilmente o tomar
distintas formas:

También podemos decir que el colchón
es blando. / the

y ¿otro significado?
Que es poco
exigente o débil de carácter:
María es un poco blanda con sus hijos. / She is a bit lenient with her kids.
O sea
blando referido al carácter tiene una connotación negativa.
En
Spanish in Cabo somos suaves pero no blandos…
