What is the theme of the day?
Since Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in the United
States and we have a lot of Spanish fans who are Americans, we're going to talk
about the verb: “agradecer”.
This Thursday, November 25, Americans celebrate
Thanksgiving, which translates into Spanish as Thanksgiving Day.
It is an ancient and very beautiful holiday because
giving thanks is very good for the soul. It is currently celebrated in the
United States and Canada. In the year 2021 in Canada it was October 11, it is
always the second Monday of October and in the USA it will be tomorrow,
Thursday, November 25, the fourth Thursday of November of each year.
Acción de Gracias
What does “agradecer” mean?
To be thankful is to give thanks or feel gratitude.
How about some examples?
El Día de Acción de gracias es una celebración de
origen cristiano en la que se daba gracias por la cosecha y esta
tradición se mantiene hasta hoy. / Thanksgiving
Day is a celebration of Christian origin in which thanks was given for the
harvest and this tradition continues to these days.
Hoy en día, las familias se reúnen para preparar y
comer una comida cuyo plato principal es el pavo y para agradecer por el año. /
Today families gather to prepare and eat
a meal whose main dish is turkey and to give thanks for the year.
To thank in Spanish we use the verb dar: te damos
gracias or te doy gracias.
And if we say “gracias” or “muchas gracias” the answer
is:
“De
nada” / “por nada” or “no hay de qué” according to courtesy forms.
The action of “dar gracias” is “agradecer” and the
verb is a bit irregular in the present tense:
Yo agradezco- tú
agradeces – él / ella / usted agradece - nosotros o nosotras agradecemos –
ellos/ellas/ustedes agradecen.
The noun is “agradecimiento” which is the action of
thanking. A very nice phrase says that “el agradecimiento es la memoria del
corazón” / Gratitude is the memory of the heart.
The adjective is “agradecido” or “agradecida”.
There is also the word “gracia”, let's see some uses:
Camina o baila con gracia / He walks or dances with grace.
Este
préstamo tiene un período de gracia de 3 meses. / This loan has a grace period of 3 months.
Recibió
la gracia de Dios. / He received God´s
grace
Tiene mucha gracia para contar chistes. / She has a lot of grace to tell jokes.
I usually tell very funny jokes at the Friday
workshops.
I can imagine....
Really, very funny jokes and all the participants
understand them and laugh.

¿Cuál
es el tema del día?
Como el
jueves es el Día de Acción de Gracias en los Estados Unidos y tenemos muchos
fans del español que son estadounidenses, vamos a hablar del verbo: agradecer.
Este jueves 25 de noviembre, los
estadounidenses, celebran Thanksgiving, que se traduce al español como el Día
de Acción de Gracias.
Es una
fiesta antigua y muy bonita pues, la acción de dar gracias, es muy buena para
el alma. Actualmente, se celebra en Estados Unidos y Canadá. En el año 2021 en
Canadá fue el 11 de octubre, siempre es el segundo lunes de octubre y en EEUU
será mañana, jueves 25 de noviembre,
cuarto jueves de noviembre de cada año.
¿Qué significa agradecer?
Agradecer
es dar gracias o sentir gratitud.
¿Qué tal si ponemos algunos ejemplos?
Hoy en día, las familias se reúnen para

Para
agradecer en español usamos el verbo dar: te damos gracias o te doy gracias
Y si decimos gracias o muchas gracias la
respuesta es:
De nada /
por nada o no hay de qué de acuerdo a las fórmulas de cortesía.
La acción de dar gracias es el agradecer y el
verbo es un poco irregular en el presente:
El nombre
es el agradecimiento que es la acción de agradecer. Una frase muy bonita dice
que el agradecimiento es la memoria del corazón. / Gratitude is the memory of the heart
El adjetivo
es agradecido o agradecida
También existe la palabra gracia, veamos
algunos usos:
