What is today's topic?
Today we are going to talk about a very interesting ell, I have to replace some missing lights...
This verb belongs to the same etymological family as poner and has several uses in Spanish. Let's look at some examples and translations into English. We'll ask you to repeat some of the examples.
First, reponer can mean to substitute or replace something that has been worn out or used up.
For example: / Por ejemplo
“Tenemos que reponer el dinero que gastamos.” → We have to
replace the money we spent.
“Todavía no repuso los vasos que se rompieron en la fiesta.” → He still hasn’t replaced the glasses that broke at the party.
It can also be used in the sense of returning something or someone to their previous place, job, or state.
How about an example?
El corredor repuso fuerzas y siguió corriendo.” → The
runner regained strength and kept running.
“En los supermercados se reponen constantemente los artículos.”
Repite: El reponedor del Supermercado repone la leche todos los días.
The past tense of reponer is: yo repuse, tú repusiste, él/ella repuso, nosotros/as repusimos, ellos/as repusieron, ustedes repusieron. In other words, it follows the form of poner.
Another use of reponer is to respond to someone, almost as a synonym for replicar or contestar.
Can you give us an example?
Cuando lo acusaron de robar dinero, repuso que tan solo cumplía
órdenes.”
When accused of stealing
money, he replied that he was just following orders.”
“Repusieron la obra de teatro que fue famosa en 1980.” They revived
the play that was famous in 1980.”

There is also the reflexive form: recover, which is used to indicate recovery after an illness or exertion.
“Se está reponiendo de su enfermedad, todavía tiene que cuidarse mucho.”
→ He is recovering from his illness; he
still has to be careful.
