In his own handwriting /"De puño y letra" - 5 minutes of Spanish + Podcast (English version)

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on where you are or at what time you listen to us.

Thank you very much for being here, participating week after week, in this podcast about Spanish, a language that we love and that today summons us.

We begin the month of February and we are approaching one of the most beautiful and romantic days of the year.....

Don't tell me that in the sixth podcast of 2024 we are going to talk about love.

No, that will be next Wednesday, which coincides with that fabulous day, in this edition number 183 of 5 minutes of Spanish we are going to talk about cards.

Letters.... cards by hand? Why?

It's because among the weird days, "alternative or fun weird days" today February 7 is "Send a Letter to a Friend Day" and I love to write and I love letters.

I know, well, letter in English is letter. I think the only reason we know this word is because in the language books they are like a reminder of the past....

Yes I agree, in our Survival Spanish we mention as a hobby: collecting stamps, an almost impossible activity nowadays Did you have pen pals?

No, actually it's been a long time since I wrote a letter, I write a lot of e-mails and text messages, and record text messages. But, let's get back to the topic of the podcast: Letters.

Very well, for me writing a letter in my own handwriting is to remember old times and that communication with people far away. We used to communicate for different reasons: a declaration of love, to break a love relationship, an unconfessable confession, good news or a friend who lived far away.  Believe it or not, handwriting stimulates the brain and helps the memory.

There's a lot of vocabulary here!

Escribir de puño y letra- handwriting

Escribir a mano- handwirting

Letra- handwriting

Puño- fist

Declaración de amor- Declaration of love (¿no era que el miércoles 14 de febrero hablamos de amor?)

Romper una relación amorosa - breaking up a love relationship

Confesión inconfesable -  Unspeakable confession

Cerebro – brain

Shall we see some examples?

He expressed his will in his own handwriting

Neuroscientists say that handwriting makes us more reflective, promotes memory, creativity, empathy, relaxes you, manages anxiety and combats stress.

So, let’s write fist and handwriting! What if I have bad handwriting or doctor’s handwriting?

Calligraphy is learned as a child and requires practice, but nothing more than that. It is interesting to send an invitation written on your computer but sign and add some handwritten or handwritten words, with the signature.

Yes, the person who receives this feels that you paid attention, that you really care, it is very empathetic.

It is good to write notes by hand, neat, clear and without erasures. It is a habit.

Tachaduras-deletions

How about you, has it been a long time since you wrote a letter, have you enjoyed doing it, have you never written a letter, are you excited to receive letters from friends?

Thank you very much for making it this far in the Podcast.  And thanks for listening, participating, commenting. Spanish in Cabo and SpanishUp2U would not be the same without you. We want you to speak and think in Spanish, that's our mission.

Thank you for allowing us to do this work that we love and for listening to this podcast, although we confess that we don't write it in our own handwriting, we do it on the computer...

And, if you liked this podcast, please share it.

Or send it with a letter to a friend for letter writing day, I assure you that he or she will like it.

See you in the workshops, in the classes, 24/7 on SpanishUp2U, in the Thursday workshop on Zoom, or listen to us next Wednesday.

See you soon.

Bye-bye.
