Como estamos en Semana Santa vamos a ser súper originales y comentar algunas palabras propias de estos días de vacaciones.

¡Qué originales que estamos hoy! Pero hay diferentes formas de celebrar la semana Santa o Semana Mayor en América Latina ¿verdad? Aunque la influencia de la religión católica hace que todas las fiestas tengan un denominador común: el recuerdo de la muerte y la resurrección de Cristo.

 

Aquí tenemos dos palabras que se van a escuchar mucho:

Muerte - death

Resurrección - resurrection

 

Antes de la Semana Santa o Semana de Pascua como le dicen en Brasil, tenemos la cuaresma que da fin al Carnaval. Son para los creyentes 40 días de reflexión y meditación. Luego viene la Semana Santa que comienza con el domingo de Ramos y termina en el domingo de Pascuas.

En México una de las celebraciones más tradicionales es la de Iztapalapa, desde 1848  se representan los últimos días de Jesús. Los actores tienen que ser nacidos en el pueblo, a Jesús lo representa un chico diferente cada año y por supuesto es un gran honor hacerlo.

 

¿Cuantas personas participan?

 

Se convirtió en un Patrimonio de la Humanidad y hasta el 2019 reunía a más de 2 millones de personas. Este año se va a celebrar por primera vez después de la pandemia pero es parte presencial y parte por Internet.

 

¿Además de la representación qué otras ceremonias se realizan?

 

Entre los eventos se destacan las procesiones y las misas.

Hay algunos días en los que no se come carne, ¿verdad?

 

Si jueves y viernes santo se hace ayuno de carne.

Por eso el desayuno significa: cortar el ayuno.

 

¿Hay otras celebraciones importantes en América Latina?

 

Hay muchísimas en todos los países se celebra y hay diferentes ceremonias según la región. Hay una unión de los ritos católicos con las tradiciones indígenas, las ceremonias son muy coloridas y muchas personas las realizan con fe. Pero en la actualidad ya son celebraciones turísticas no solamente religiosas.

¿Y qué hace la gente local?

 

Las familias creyentes van a las iglesias…pero cada vez más muchas personas tienen vacaciones y hacen turismo.

Es la semana en la que los locales van a las playas y acampan toda la semana

¿Qué más se puede decir del vocabulario de Semana Santa?

 

Algo que a ti no te gusta hacer: ¡comer! La comida de Semana Santa es muy especial, México tiene sus propias recetas para la ocasión

As we are in “Semana Santa” we are going to be super original and comment on some words typical of these vacation days.

 

How original we are today! But there are different ways of celebrating “Semana Santa” or “Semana Mayor” in Latin America, aren't there? Although the influence of the Catholic religion means that all holidays have a common denominator: the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Christ.

 

Here are two words that will be heard a lot:

Muerte - death

Resurrection - resurrection

 

Before Holy Week or Easter Week, as it is called in Brazil, we have Lent, which ends Carnival. For believers, it is 40 days of reflection and meditation. Then comes the Holy Week that begins with Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.

In Mexico one of the most traditional celebrations is that of Iztapalapa, since 1848 the last days of Jesus are represented. The actors have to be born in the town, Jesus is represented by a different boy every year and of course it is a great honor to do it.

 

How many people participate?

 

It became a World Heritage Site and until 2019 it gathered more than 2 million people. This year it is going to be held for the first time after the pandemic but it is part face-to-face and part online.

There are some days when meat is not eaten, right?

 

Yes, on Holy Thursday and Good Friday there is a fast from meat.

Are there other important celebrations in Latin America?

 

There are many in every country and there are different ceremonies depending on the region. There is a union of Catholic rites with indigenous traditions, the ceremonies are very colorful and many people perform them with faith. But nowadays they are not only religious but also touristic celebrations.

Believing families go to churches...but more and more people are taking vacations and going sightseeing.

 

And here in Los Cabos?

 

It's the week when the locals go to the beaches and camp all week long.

Something you don't like to do: eat! Semana Santa food is very special, Mexico has its own recipes for the occasion
