So, what's the topic today?

 

In these 5 minutes of Spanish in the middle of the week we are going to talk about a verb that is used a lot and that is the verb DAR.

 

What does DAR mean?

 

It is to donate or give something, but depending on the usage it has other meanings.

 

In English it is translated as to give /

Dar un paseo - to take a walk

Dar un regalo - to give a gift

Dar una propina - to give a tip

Dar is a 3-letter verb but with many uses besides donating something.

We are going to analyze 5 and one expression

 

1 - Shake hands or give a hug, kiss or welcome.... Give a good morning by saying: Good morning sir, madam, I am pleased to meet you and extend your hand or shake your hand.

 

Well in these times it is better to give the elbow or greet with the hands in the form of prayer, or with an inclination of the body, the forms of courtesy are changing.

 

In Mexico we always gave (dábamos) each other a hug, now I miss that...,

 

Dábamos is the imperfect verb dar / We used to give a hug.

 

Number 2 is another use of dar, completely different is “dar a luz” or to give birth to a baby.

Our daughter gave birth to a baby girl, now we have a beautiful granddaughter, we thank life for that.

 

The third use is to “dar gracias” - to give thanks.

 

In the Church, for example, we say: "Te damos gracias señor" / We thank you Lord.

 

The 4th use is related to education: to give a lesson. To give a lesson

 

We teachers give lessons

Children can also give a lesson that they specially prepare, I remember that I gave a lesson about Italy in 6th grade.

¿Y cuál es el tema hoy?

En estos 5 minutos de español a la mitad de la semana vamos a conversar sobre un verbo que se usa mucho y es el verbo DAR.

Dar un paseo por el parque

¿Qué significa DAR?

Es donar o entregar algo, pero según el uso tiene otros significados.

En inglés se traduce como to give /

Dar un paseo – to take a walk

Dar un regalo – to give a gift

Dar una propina- to give a tip

Dar es un verbo de 3 letras pero con muchos usos, además de donar algo.

Vamos a analizar 5 y una expresión

1 Dar la mano o dar un abrazo, dar un beso o dar la bienvenida….Dar los buenos días diciendo: Buenos días señor, señora mucho gusto y extiendes la mano o das la mano.

 Bueno en estos tiempos es mejor dar el codo o saludar con las manos en forma de rezo,

 o con una inclinación del cuerpo pues, las formas de cortesía están cambiando.

En México siempre nos dábamos un abrazo, ahora extraño eso.,

Dábamos es el verbo dar en imperfecto / We used to give a hug

El número 2 es otro uso de dar, completamente diferente es dar a luz o sea tener un bebé.

Nuestra hija dio a luz una beba, ahora tenemos una nieta hermosa, damos gracias a la vida por eso.

El tercer uso, es dar gracias - to give thanks

En la Iglesia por ejemplo se dice: “Te damos gracias Señor”. /  We thank you Lord

El 4to uso está relacionado con la educación: dar una clase. To give a lesson

Los maestros damos clases

 

Los niños también pueden dar una lección que preparan especialmente, yo recuerdo que di una lección sobre Italia en 6to de escuela
