is our topic today?
November

date and there are many celebrations and festivities....
Malena
I remind you that this podcast is for Learning Spanish not history....
I
know, that's why in this podcast 170 we are going to talk about the
vocabulary of the Revolution, the words related to this long process.
Revolución
is a cognate with English all words ending in “tion” in English correspond with
the suffixes “coin” in Spanish.
In
both English and Spanish, they refer to the result of an action. In Spanish
they are always feminine words.
La acción – the action
La acusación – the
acusation
La atención- the
attention
La contradicción - the
contradiction
La explotación - the
exploitation
La liberación - the
liberation
La población - the
population
In
the plural they also lose the accent: “La opción – las opciones”.
Let's
go to the Mexican Revolution, which is the topic.
Yes,
it was one of the first social revolutions of the 20th century. It was an armed
movement led by Francisco I. Madero against Porfirio Diaz who remained in power
for more than 30 years.
Porfirio
Diaz found out that Madero wanted the presidency and imprisoned him. Madero
escapes and from the United States, from San Antonio Texas, he sends a
communiqué inviting the people to rise up in arms and this happens on November
20, 1910.
And
the Revolution begins and will end 10 years later in 1920.
It
is a long and very complicated process.
Los logros y los cambios para México fueron muchos. Se
promulga una nueva constitución, la de 1917. Se nacionalizan el suelo y el
subsuelo mexicano. / The achievements and changes for Mexico were many. A new constitution of 1917 was enacted. Mexican
soil and subsoil were nationalized.
Hay una reforma agraria que termina con el latifundio. Se
reparten las tierras a los campesinos. /
There is an agrarian reform that puts an end to
the latifundia. Land is distributed to the peasants.
The
“educación pública” is reformed. This doesn't need
translation, does it? Educación pública.
Se nacionaliza el petróleo. / Oil is nationalized.
Mejoran las condiciones de los trabajadores y se cran los
sindicatos. / Workers' conditions are improved and unions are created.
November
20 is a public holiday and there are parades in memory of the revolution.
